Abel is the physical (real) form of U-DO, whereas Abel’s Ark is the discarnate (imaginary) form of U-DO. They exist as observational units for U-DO of the lower domain, where humans exist. Abel takes on the form of a child, and he rarely speaks to others.
Back in the time of Lost Jerusalem, people discovered that the Zohar would emit an enormous amount of energy if it were exposed to a specific brainwave. During an experiment, the Zohar went out of control and caused the young girl, Nephilim, who was participating to disappear. It was at the same time that Abel appeared.
In Episode III, Abel was the pilot and core module of Omega Res Novae, a unit created by Dmitri Yuriev; it was based off Proto Omega. He appeared before Shion several times, at the first meeting he drew a picture of Nephilim on the floor and the second time he lead her to KOS-MOS. When Shion and company went into Abel’s Ark to stop Yuriev, they fought Omega Metempsychosis, which was created from Yuriev combining with Omega Res Novae. After defeating it, Abel and the Zohar ended up on Michtam. When the group went down into the isolation research facility, Shion passed out and Abel revealed to her that he is U-DO. The group then continued on to confront Wilhelm, where he revealed that he must seal away the two Abels to remove U-DO’s influence from the world and achieve his ideal. Abel was used inside Zarathustra and after Wilhelm was killed, he was released and decided to help Nephilim gather all the Gnosis and shift the region of space to Lost Jerusalem.
Origin of the name
“Abel” comes from the Hebrew word “Hevel” or “Havel” which mean “breath”. In the Old Testament of the Bible, Abel was the second son of Adam and Eve. Abel is seen as the first martyr, as he was murdered by his older brother, Cain.
