Hammer is the navigator of the Elsa. A childhood friend of Tony’s, they have remained good friends throughout the years, depsite their frequent bickering. An accomplished hacker even as a teenager, Hammer foolishly hacked into the database of a criminal organization. While on the run from them, Matthews rescued him and took him aboard the ship, where he’s been employed since.

He seems to be familiar with extinct wildlife of Lost Jerusalem, as he compares their crew to jackals, referencing the way they scavange through debris for the possessions of the dead. Matthews rebukes him for this, considering it bad luck.

As well as frequently arguing with Tony, Hammer seems easily irritated and tends to take his anger out on others, as evidenced by the way he passive-aggressively blames Allen for spilling a drink on his work station. It’s possible that he just doesn’t get along with Allen, either; when they leave to search the Dock Colony for Cherenkov, Hammer was originally going to go with him, but quickly became frustrated with Allen’s moping and decided to go alone. Like his fellow crew members, Hammer also cannot cook.

It is interesting to note that his Xenogears counterpart, also named Hammer, looks remarkably similar to him — despite being a demihuman/capybara. They both wear glasses and have similar spiked-back hairstyles.
